Book First Edition
Trade Paperback. Condition: Fine. First Edition. 298 Pages. Brand New condition with interior text pages that are near flawless. After thirteen-year-old Agnes Fisher faints at school, her teacher, the young and still idealistic Amy Slade, is shocked to discover in the girl's desk two stereoscopic photographs. One is of a dead baby in its cradle, and on the back Agnes has scrawled a terrible message. Worse, the other photograph is of Agnes in a pose captioned 'What Mr. Newly Wed Really Wants.' When Agnes doesn't show up at school the next day, her teacher takes the two photographs to the police. Murdoch, furious at the sexual exploitation of such a young girl, resolves to find the photographer and to put him behind bars. Night's Child is the fifth novel in Maureen Jennings's highly praised historical mystery series. Three of Jennings's novels have been made into TV movies under the title Murder 19C: The Murdoch Mysteries. Bravo/CHUM is currently developing a series based on the character of Detective William Murdoch for broadcast in 2007.

"It has been a government embarrassment from time to time: the Customs Scandal of 1926 brought down a Liberal administration. When the U.S. enacted prohibition in 1920, the Canadian government denounced the demon rum & yet provided both the operating base & the raw materials for the multi-billion-dollar industry of the eager entrepreneurs of Rum Row. The Collectors names names of people & corporations who made fortunes matching wits with the men & women of Customs & Excise. Appendices include a list of 114 current border points nationwide, an outline of the duties & powers of Customs officials & the poignant tale of pioneer inspector Charles Thomas Dupont and bureaucracy gone mad." Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. First Edition Proof Wraps. This is a rare offering for the readers of Mordecai Richler. Richler is well known for his international bestseller, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz and many other fine novels. He passed away just a few years ago and he will be sorely missed by readers around the world as well as in his home country of Canada. I met Mr. Richler at an event several years ago that highlighted several Canadian authors and he was a true gentleman. This uncorrected proof copy states that This Year in Jerusalem is the "tentative" title. The book is comprised of Mr. Richler's essays and reports. It is beautifully written. The proof is in Fine condition and looks new. There is some slight toning of the text but it is very slight. A proof serves the purpose of allowing the writer and the publisher to check for any changes or errors that need to be fixed before the book is published for the first time. Proofs are also sent to professional reviewers. Proofs are published prior to the release of the first edition and they are printed in very small quantities. They are more rare than the First edition. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
