Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First UK Edition. Originally published in France in 1962; this translation first appeared in the USA in the following year. 8vo. Black paper-covered boards. pp.[x], 116, [ii] (blank). 'Totemism usually denotes a relationship believed to exist between human beings and certain animals or features of nature. The author points out the great variety of beliefs encompassed by totemism, the attacks to which it has been subjected and the constant attempts to restore useful meaning to it.' Spotted to the head edge and a little to the outer leaves, a blank page at the rear soiled no doubt in production, and the spine ends bumped, the jacket (in a removable plastic sleeve) slightly rubbed and toned in places, the toning to central areas barely perceptible from the front, the spine a touch sunned and echoing the bumps, but presenting rather well for the most part.
