Text in book is in English, in spite of the title. Throughout his life Marcel Duchamp attempted to hide all traces of his journey to Munich. He deliberately misled his interlocutors by claiming he had lived in a hotel room and not spocken to anyone. As part of an unusual project Rudolf Herz explores Duchamp's stay in the summer of 1912 an creates a scenario which brings together artistic imagination and historical research. Supported by recently discovered sources Herz reconstructs Duchamp's temporary abode as the birthplace of conceptual art. Looking back, Duchamp called Munich the "scene of my complete liberation". And indeed, it was there that the dramatic change took place which eventually made him one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
