Peterchens Mondfahrt ist ein Märchen für Kinder von Gerdt von Bassewitz (1878-1923), das in diesem Buch mit 14 farbigen Zeichnungen von Hans Baluschek (1870-1935) anschaulich illustriert wurde. Es handelt von den Abenteuern des Maikäfers Herr Sumsemann, der zusammen mit den Menschenkindern Peter und Anneliese zum Mond fliegt, um von dort sein verlorengegangenes sechstes Beinchen zu holen. Am 7. Dezember 1912 wurde Peterchens Mondfahrt als Märchenspiel in sechs Bildern mit Musik von Josef Achtélik und „in Scene gesetzt“ von Paul Prina im Alten Theater Leipzig uraufgeführt.1915 wurde das Märchen dann als Buch veröffentlicht. Es gilt heute als ein Klassiker der deutschen Kinder- und Jugendliteratur. Als Vorbild für die Geschwister Peter und Anneliese sollen die gleichnamigen Kinder des Ärzteehepaars Eva und Oskar Kohnstamm gedient haben, in deren Sanatorium sich Bassewitz im Jahre 1911 zur Kur aufhielt.

About the Author:
Gerdt Bernhard von Bassewitz (1878 1923), having been a lieutenant in the Prussian militia, a playwright, and an actor, had his only great success with "Peter and Anneli s Journey to the Moon" ("Peterchens Mondfahrt"), which began as a successful stage play in 1912 in Leipzig and was issued as a book in 1915. It quickly became one of the best-loved German children s books and has been a bestseller in Germany to this day. After his success, von Bassewitz went on to become an assistant stage director in Cologne. Eventually he moved to Berlin, where he lived as a freelance writer.
