Racing year after year, Primerica regularly brought home a paycheck for whoever happened to own him at the time. But as he got older, Primerica ran in cheaper and cheaper races until his legs grew weary and he no longer could finish “in the money.” Nearly 10 years old, Primerica was washed up as a racehorse and facing an uncertain future. Then one day he stepped onto a van, fearful it would be his last ride. But that van delivered him to caring new owners in Kentucky and their “home for the brave.”

Jane Lyon is living her lifelong dream of raising Thoroughbreds in the bluegrass of Kentucky. An avid animal lover and poet, she and her daughter Karen Bailey are intimately involved in every aspect of the family’s Summerwind Farm near Georgetown and are dedicated to equine welfare.

Karen is an accomplished hunter-jumper rider and a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Susie Gordon is a longtime artist known for her love of animals, including the horse. She is a frequent exhibitor at the American Academy of Equine Art’s fall show and exhibition. Gordon illustrated Skipingo Home, the first book by Primerica authors Jane Lyon and Karen Bailey.
