Hough adeptly paints the bleak picture of life in this small town. There are no jobs and no hope, and schooling isn't an option if there is no money. It's easy to see why some choose to take up a life of crime. As Diego struggles with his journey, he travels the same path that many migrant workers do as they cross to and from Mexico to support a family, making this a timely and timeless work. Teens who have enjoyed titles by Francisco Jiménez will want to pick up this moving tale.
