Facundo o civilización y barbarie en las pampas argentinas es un libro escrito en 1845 por el educador, periodista, escritor y político argentino, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, durante su segundo exilio en Chile. Facundo es uno de los principales exponentes de la literatura hispanoamericana. Además de su valor literario, la obra resulta fundamental por su análisis del desarrollo político, económico y social de Sudamérica, de su modernización, sus potenciales y diversidad cultural. Como lo indica su título, en el texto, Sarmiento analiza los conflictos que surgieron en Argentina una vez alcanzada la Independencia política en 1816, partiendo de la antinomia intranacional entre civilización y barbarie.
