The first edition of this venerable cookbook appeared almost 20 years ago; this new volume includes not only traditional New England dishes but also such locally popular foods as Caesar Salad or Thai Spring Rolls. In fact, many of the entries could be from any American community cookbook. However, all the New En gland specialties are here--the desserts are an especially good selection--and the occasional sidebars provide some historical context. Area and larger collections will want this as a companion to Malabar Hornblower's The Plimoth Plantation New England Cookery Book ( LJ 11/15/90) and Jasper White's Cooking from New England ( LJ 11/15/89).
