Seals, Sea Lions and Walruses

Grade 3-6-- A well-organized introduction to pinnipeds. Patent begins at the beginning, which for seals was more than 23 million years ago. Individual species and their behaviors are then discussed, with emphasis on the differences among the three seal families. The descriptions of their sensory perceptions are not as detailed as those in Wonders of Seals and Sea Lions (Dodd, 1976; o.p.) by Joseph E. Brown. While not all of the black-and-white photographs are crisp, they are well placed to relate directly and specifically to the text. There is a list of the scientific and common names of seals, sea lions, and walruses within their family organizations, and a helpful index references terms and illustrations.
