Ensuring that the science in science-fiction is accurate, Kathy holds degrees in Microbiology and Elementary Education from Montana State University. She has worked in a clinical laboratory setting and was also an elementary school teacher as well before dedicating herself to the craft of writing. She has written stories for numerous science-fiction journals and has published six books, including One Mind's Eye, Crystal Witness, Shivering World, and Truce at Bakura which made the New York Time bestseller list.

Firebird, the first book Kathy has rewritten, is an eloquent and adventuresome tale about one woman's search for salvation. Lady Firebird seeks not only her own salvation but those of the worlds she sought to free. Her choice between two worlds has eternal consequences for herself as well as the man she loves.

A talented musician as well as an author, Kathy has recorded many albums with her husband and she also plays flute with the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra and the Bozeman Flute and Harp Ensemble. Besides writing, she enjoys gardening, bicycling and skiing.

Kathy is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She and her husband, Mark, have one son, and make their home in Montana.
