An interesting point is made about the need for secrecy during the meetings of the delegates in order to encourage delegates to express their opinions freely. This could stimulate discus sions regarding contemporary mea sures for secrecy in important govern ment events. Smith highlights Kennedy's avid reading habits and his early interest in world events. The theme of intellectual success amidst persistent physical difficulties is made evident. Smith chronicles key events such as Kennedy's military career, marriage, presidency, and his role in the civil rights movement. Young readers should come away with a good overview of his life and achievements.
