Grade 3-5-- Nine retellings of encounters with ghosts--six English, one Dutch, one Greek, and one Middle Eastern that are lively and easily read. Each succinct, concisely told story is from three to four pages long, and sports an illustration. Other versions of the stories can be found in Cohen's Real Ghosts (Dodd, 1982), Seymour Simon's Ghosts (Lippincott, 1988), and David Knight's Best True Ghost Stories of the 20th Century (Prentice-Hall, 1984; o.p.). The cover art is dynamite--a skeleton appears in dark, somber tones, wearing a suit and fixing his tie.
