From Library Journal:
With credentials as editor, book packager, author's representative, and writer, Boswell knows the manuscript submission process from multiple angles. Here he coaches struggling authors on how to think through and present book ideas most effectively, in view of such "awful" truths about publishing as that most editors are preoccupied and overburdened. He offers little encouragement to would-be authors of fiction, or anything not aimed at commercial success. Instead, he advocates studying general bookstores as miniatures of today's publishing cosmos (excluding libraries because they stock out-of-print titles). An interesting appendix provides the actual book proposal he sent to Warner to get this book accepted. Recommended. William A. Donovan, Chicago P.L.
