Diana Wynne Jones spent her childhood in Essex and has been writing fantasy novels for children since 1973. If Vivian is to return to her own world and time, it will be necessary for her to help her kidnappers foil the Time Lady first. That almost nothingwhether person or incidentis precisely what it appears to be at first encounter both complicates Vivian's task and delights readers.
